Lumecca is one of the most advanced intense pulsed light (IPL) technologies available today. Compared to other IPL devices, Lumecca uses higher maximum pulsed light power to deliver superior results and shorter treatment times. IPL treatments send bursts of high-intensity light deep below the skin surface, where they target melanin (in pigment) and hemoglobin (in blood vessels).
When treating pigmentation, the light is absorbed by the pigment and breaks it down so it can be eliminated naturally by your body. When treating broken capillaries or redness, the light is absorbed into faulty blood vessels, causing them to disappear almost instantaneously.
Lumecca IPL also provides general rejuvenation. The heat from the light stimulates collagen production to help plump and firm your skin, minimize fine lines and illuminate your complexion.

Versatility is a key feature of the Lumecca treatment. Not only can it be applied to a range of skin concerns, but it can also be applied to a broader spectrum of skin tones. This is an advancement over older IPL devices, which could not treat darker skin without a significant risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Lumecca can also treat sensitive skin types, such as those with rosacea.
Your treatment at Bespoke Rx will begin with a consultation to determine whether Lumecca IPL is a suitable option for you. If you are pregnant or nursing, taking Accutane or have chronic health conditions, we may advise you to postpone treatment or consider other options.
Minimal preparation is required before your appointment. The most important thing to do is avoid direct, prolonged sun exposure and tanning for one month pre-treatment. We also recommend avoiding harsh or irritating topical products for at least two to three days before each session.
Your provider will start by applying a cool gel to your face and providing you with protective eyewear. Then, they will pass the Lumecca handpiece over your skin while it emits flashes of light. Most patients do not find this to be painful, but it is not completely sensationless. The treatment is often described as feeling like a series of rubber band snaps against the skin.
A Lumecca treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Your skin may look and feel mildly sunburned after treatment. You may return to regular activities right away, as long as you feel comfortable with your appearance. No downtime is required for medical reasons and post-treatment redness tends to fade quickly.
Within a day or two of your treatment, you may start to notice a darkening of pigment in the treated area. The pigment will gradually rise to the surface of your skin, which can give it a “coffee grounds” appearance, before sloughing off to reveal a more even skin tone.
Adopt a simplified skincare routine focused on soothing and moisturizing. An overly complicated or harsh post-care routine can lead to irritation. Do not pick at the treatment area while it is healing. Be extra diligent about avoiding the sun and applying high-quality sunscreen regularly.
You may start to see improvements within a week, as treated veins and/or pigmentation fade away. However, your results should continue to improve over time as collagen production ramps up, and you will likely see the best results two to four weeks after your final Lumecca treatment.
No IPL treatment lasts forever, but Lumecca’s advanced technology can mean longer-lasting results than other IPL devices. Everyone is unique, and results are dependent on how your skin responds to treatment and how you care for your skin afterward. Your provider can recommend complementary treatments or help you develop a skincare routine to maximize your results.
